I have been busy.

It started with taking Olivia to walk with the Pug Social group in the Cleveland St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

She did not enjoy the bands and drums warming up before the parade.  It probably did not help that we had to wait about two hours before we started moving.  I had never been to the parade downtown, so it was a lot of fun to finally be able to experience it by walking in it!

I also got to represent my MSU Spartans in the parade which was fun because it was in the midst of March Madness and MSU was still in the Tourney…before getting knocked out by Louisville.

Next up was a last minute trip to Washington D.C.

I managed to get a run in and stick to my Cleveland Half Mary training plan while away.  The hotel gym at the Hilton BWI was fantastic! State of the art equipment and everything seemed well taken care of.

There’s nothing quite as exciting is being able to watch your husband testify before a congressional subcommittee!

testify

It was  a quick day trip, but I sure enjoyed getting a high score on FourSquare while we were there!  So many places to “check-in!”

After Rob’s testimony, we spent the rest of the day in Georgetown having lunch, eating cupcakes, and shopping (I finally managed to snag some compression socks!)  We were also able to make it to see the cherry blossoms by the Jefferson Memorial.  They were beautiful and were in full bloom about two weeks early this year because of the warm weather.

No sooner were we home for a week and a half and we packed up the car to drive out to D.C. for a pre-planned weekend trip!  It was nice being there for a day earlier in March as we were able to cross a few things off of our list (see the Capitol, cherry blossoms, go to Georgetown etc.).  We had planned this road trip to D.C. a few months ago to go visit all of our old favorite restaurants and hangouts that we frequented while we were in law school.

We stayed at the Hilton on Connecticut in Dupont Circle.  It was so weird to drive back in to the District.  We drove by one of our apartments in Woodley Park and walked past out other apartment in Dupont.

We ate at our favorite restaurants, including Bistrot du Coin:

Went back to visit our law school:

And while there visited the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception:

Last weekend, we went to Dexter, Michigan to my sister’s house for Easter.

Now, life gets back to normal.

My training has been suffering the past three weeks as I’ve only been hitting about half of my runs.  I’ve done all of my long runs.  I’m currently trying to get over a head cold and pinched nerve in my upper back, so I’m not too hopeful of getting all of my runs in this week either.

I did receive an exciting package from the Running Warehouse with some new Brooks gear.  Hopefully I’ll have time to post my review of the items I received in the coming week!

8 Years Later

in Family

Eight years ago today my dad passed away.  I was living in Washington D.C. at the time and remember catching a flight from D.C. to get home.

Today I am boarding a plane to fly to D.C.  Talk about crazy timing.

In the days, weeks, and months following his death the song I’ll Fly Away was a ray of hope for me. The version I used to listen to was done by Alison Krauss.  As an adult I have found a love of New Orleans Jazz and stumbled across this version by The Preservation Hall Jazz Band and the Del McCoury Band.

Adult Food

March 18, 2012

I ate a grapefruit after my 6 mile run today.  Who am I? I used to hate grapefruit! This got me thinking about other foods that I have grown to love in my adulthood.  And by adulthood, I mean age 26+ so as to not include coffee on this list, which I drank religiously starting [...]

Five Miles

March 10, 2012

It has been a beautiful day in Cleveland today! This morning started off with the St. Malachi 5 miler.  It was a cold, cold morning.  Much colder than I expected.  The forecast indicated it would be about 10* warmer, but instead it hovered right around 30* at the start. I managed to leave the house [...]

Ice Cream

March 4, 2012

I finally was able to peel myself away from Olivia this morning to go for my run despite her ability to be a nice heater on cold mornings. My long run ended up being 5.5 miles instead of 5, which is great given the weather I had to get through this morning. I left at [...]

Cleveland Half Mary Training Plan

March 3, 2012

I finally got down to business and put together my plan leading up to the Cleveland Half Marathon in May. I’m pretty excited about the plan, based off of Hal Higdon’s Intermediate training program. Key: S + S = strength and stretch Tempo = Easy pace up to 10K pace and back to easy pace [...]
